What you need
- 4 to 6 pink, red, or orange feathers
- 2 pink chenille stems
- 1 large (1 ¼ inch) pink pom-pom
- 1 small (1/2 inch) pink pom-pom
- 1 3 x 3 inch square piece of blue foam
- 2 small pieces of pink foam (optional)
- 2 googly eyes, black sequins, or beads
- Scissors
- Glue
- Small cup or bowl
- Tape
- Toothpick
1.
Make the head and neck by sliding the small pom-pom onto one of the chenille stems. Make sure a short piece comes through the other side; bend the small piece downward to form the flamingo’s beak. Use toothpick to put glue on the back of the googly eyes and attach them to small pieces of foam. Use more glue to stick the eyes onto the flamingo’s head. Set the head aside to dry.
Cut the remaining chenille stem in half (you might need a adult’s help). Bend one end of each chenille stem piece forward to form feet. If you are using pink foam for feet, glue the pieces to the top of the chenille stem. Put glue on the opposite end of the stems and insert them into the lower back part of the large pom-pom. Now the flamingo’s body has legs.
2.
Squeeze a small amount of glue into the cup. Dip the end of a feather in glue and insert it into one side of the large pom-pom to form a wing. Do the same thing with another feather, but place it on the opposite side of the pom-pom. Give your flamingo a tail by gluing another feather (or more!) to the “rear end” of the pom-pom.
3.
Glue bottom of feet to blue foam (use tape to hold the feet in place until the glue dries). Attach the neck to the front of the large pom-pom with glue. Use tape to hold the neck on until the glue dries. Let your flamingo dry for a day, then you can put it into a variety of poses by bending the neck and legs.
