What you need
- 2 bowls (1 should be safe for use in a microwave oven)
- 1 cup bread cubes (that's equal to the crusts of 3 sandwiches or two bread "heels")
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/4 cup diced "leftover" apple or banana
- 2 tablespoons chocolate chips or raisins (optional, but yummy)
1.
Put the bread cubes in a small bowl (like the one you use for cereal). Ask an adult to help you make sure the bowl can be used safely in a microwave oven. Mix in apple and/or banana pieces.
In a separate bowl, beat the egg, milk, and sugar.
2.
Pour the liquid ingredients over the bread mixture.
3.
Drop some chocolate chips or raisins on top of the bread mixture.
Microwave the bowl for 1 minute. Use pot holders or a towel to take the bowl out of the microwave without burning your hands. Check your dessert: the liquid should have turned to a solid. If you still see liquid, put the bowl back into the microwave and cook it for 30 seconds. Keep doing this until there is no more liquid.
Remove the bowl from the microwave and let the bread pudding cool for about 5 minutes before eating.
